Dr Ajay Gambhir is Director, Systemic Risk Assessment, at ASRA (the Accelerator for Systemic Risk Assessment). He leads the Accelerator's work on designing and applying frameworks, methods and tools to assess compounding and cascading risks within and between systems, that could have adverse, potentially irreversible and catastrophic impacts on humanity and ecosystems, from local to global scales. Ajay is also a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Imperial College Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment, where he worked between 2010 and 2023, leading analysis on low-carbon pathways across the world. He previously served in the UK Government as a civil servant, where he was Head of EU and International Climate Change Economics in the Department for Energy and Climate Change. He also worked in the UK Climate Change Committee, which he helped to design and set up, whilst working as one of the architects of the UK Climate Change Act 2008. Ajay holds Masters degrees in chemical engineering and development economics, and he has a PhD in energy economics.
