Speaker Biography
Chris Packham is a broadcaster, and an environmental and animal
welfare activist. His recent credits include ‘Earth’ and ‘Inside Our Autistic
Minds’ for the BBC, and ‘Is it Time to Break the Law’ for Channel 4. He is
an ambassador for numerous wildlife and environmental NGOs, and
organises his own independent campaigns and actions. With the codirectors of the not-for-profit, Wild Justice, he is in almost constant
litigation with the UK’s devolved governments. Chris campaigns for just
transitions towards positive environmental necessities - from fossil fuels
to renewable energies, from industrial and intensive animal agriculture to
plant based alternatives, from chemical dependent to regenerative
farming, and from declining biodiversity to nature recovery. He is a
passionate and vocal vegan and works in partnership with many
organisations to promote a rapid, just transition to plant based diets.
During lockdown, he formed the free-to-view ‘Self-Isolating Bird Club’
with his stepdaughter, Megan McCubbin. His autobiographical ‘Fingers
in the Sparkle Jar’ was Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4, and topped
The Sunday Times Bestsellers list. He worked with young film makers on
the ‘8 Out of 10 Bats’ You Tube series, in autumn 2023. He lives in the
New Forest with his partner Charlotte and his two poodles, Sid and
Nancy. His mantras are “winning is not giving up” and “shout above the
noise”.
