22nd November 2024:

The transformative role nature-based solutions (NBS) can play in addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation will showcased be BSI at the edie 25 conference, 27th, March Business Design Centre, London.

Developing high-integrity nature markets is a key pillar of the UK’s Green Finance Strategy to support a more sustainable world. These markets are designed to drive sustainable outcomes, scale investment in nature, and support broader global initiatives for a resilient planet.

During its session, BSI will showcase its work in its capacity as the UK’s National Standards Body with industry and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) on the Nature Investment Standards Programme. The first version of an overarching principles standard for UK nature markets was launched and opened for consultation by BSI in March.

Developed with funding from Defra, the standard creates a common definition of nature investments, designed to support the UK’s environmental goals including reversing biodiversity loss and achieving net zero. The framework provides essential guidance designed to foster the growth of ecosystem markets and unlock private investment in nature-based solutions with confidence.

BSI will also discuss its collaboration with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) on the development of the Core Carbon Principles and the supporting framework, which is focused on ensuring a robust process is followed and the drafts have undergone public consultation.

Sebastiaan Van Dort, Director of Sustainability and Energy, BSI, said: “We’re delighted to be participating in this year’s edie 25 conference, and for the opportunity to share expert insights on a range of sustainability opportunities and engage and learn from the wider sustainability community. BSI is proud to be at working on key initiatives such as the Nature Investment Standards Programme, which has a central role to play in reaching Net Zero and meeting global environmental challenges.

“Our work aims to bring clarity and consistency to the market by establishing a standardized approach that can boost confidence and encourage investment into an important, emerging market and ultimately accelerate progress towards a sustainable world. Partnering with Edie is a key step in this process and we look forward to joining many other organizations there”

Attendees will gain valuable insights into how nature markets, supported by robust standards, can transform global sustainability efforts and enable businesses to be part of a movement toward a sustainable future.

BSI’s participation in edie 25 continues its longstanding partnership with edie, which aims to share best practice and expert insights on a range of sustainability opportunities for organisations including net zero, supply chain, circular economy and more.
