Bio:
Chuka Umunna is a Managing Director and the Head of ESG across Europe, the Middle East and Africa at JP Morgan. In this role he co-ordinates and integrates JP Morgan’s ESG strategy across the EMEA region. In particular, he leads the firm’s efforts in enhancing sustainability related client engagements and partners across the bank’s business lines in the region to improve the firm’s ESG-themed product offerings. He also oversees the banks efforts to incorporate ESG into its operations in the region.
Prior to this role, Chuka was Head of ESG at Edelman, the strategy and communications advisory firm, where he co-led its global ESG consulting practice. Chuka provided advice to senior executive leadership and company boards on the integration of ESG factors into corporate decision making. He has also served as a non-executive director of several UK companies, with particular Board responsibility for ESG oversight.
Widely recognised as the former Member of Parliament for Streatham (2010-2019) in the UK, Chuka served in HM Opposition as the Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and Shadow Minister for Small Business for several years. A solicitor by profession, prior to his election to the UK Parliament he worked as a corporate employment lawyer for international City law firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP for several years.
