Special Awards
This special award will be given to an individual who has dedicated their career to the advancement of corporate sustainability and achieved exemplary success. The winner of this award will be selected by the edie team with input from the judging panel. Previous Lifetime Achievement Award-winners include Forum for the Future founder-director Jonathon Porritt and former Unilever chief executive Paul Polman.
Projects and Initiatives
To achieve good development on a planet stressed by climate change and diminishing natural resources, our buildings must be sustainable. This award celebrates the businesses that are looking to achieve a more sustainable future for the built environment through green building projects and sustainable infrastructure developments.

Open to organisations of all industry types and sizes, this award recognises those that have delivered a successful marketing campaign which engages key external stakeholders with sustainability products/services, or corporate social responsibility (CSR) achievements. Judges will be looking for highly innovative and inspiring marketing and/or advertising projects which avoid corporate greenwash and lead to a tangible increase in engagement and actions around key sustainability issues.

Created in response to the UK’s adoption of a legally-binding net-zero emissions target, this new award is open to organisations of all industry types and sizes that have developed and/or delivered ambitious decarbonisation strategies which put them on a net-zero emission trajectory. Entrants for this category are not required to have a firm net-zero target in place, but the judges will be looking for strategies which seek to cut emissions through clean technologies, innovative energy systems and unique management approaches.

Transport is responsible for a quarter of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, and its emissions are increasing at a faster rate than any other industry. Who will be crowned edie’s Business of the Year 2021? This special award recognises the organisation that has taken its environmental, social and financial performance to new heights in an effort to achieve a sustainable future, today. The long-standing award is for the businesses that are scaling up commitments and actions across all areas of corporate sustainability to advance the green economy.

Each entry in this category will be assessed against five PRIMARY CRITERIA, as detailed below. All parts of the primary criteria are weighted equally.
